CHANIA:
• The Archaeological Museum housed in the Venetian church of San Fransesco. The museum’s exhibits from Western Crete and other areas date from the Neolithic to the Roman era and include idols, statues, inscriptions, weapons, pottery, coins and jewelry.
• The Historical Archives of Crete exhibit a rich collection of materials related to the history of the island. The Historical Archives of Crete are among the largest in the Greece.
• The Naval Museum of Crete, located on the mole of the Venetian harbor.
RETHYMNO:
• The Archaeological Museum of Rethymno housed by a building constructed by the Turks in an effort to strengthen the city's defense. Because during the centuries this building had different functions (until the 1960's it housed the civic prison), its original form has been significantly altered.
HERAKLION:
• The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is one of the most important museums in Greece. This museum houses almost all the finds from the Minoan era: pottery, stone carvings, statuettes, metalwork, the marvelous frescoes from the palaces and villas of the wealthy, and the unique painted limestone sarcophagus from Agia Trias.
• The Historical Museum houses exhibits from the Byzantine, Venetian and Turkish periods and historical documents of more recent Cretan history. Moreover, here visitors can admire a rich collection of folk objects like wood carvings, local costumes, textiles and embroidery, as well as a representation of a typical Cretan house.
LASSITHI:
• The Archaeological Museum in Agios Nikolaos, which houses finds from excavations in eastern Crete.
• The Archaeological Collection of Iarapetra, which consists of marble statues and inscriptions from the Greek-Roman era.
• The Archaeological Museum of Iarapetra, which exhibits finds from the Minoan period, from Sitia, Zakros, Petra, and Paleokastro.
